PageInsight vs Fathom Analytics for Notion Pages

Fathom is a privacy-first web analytics tool we genuinely respect — but it cannot be added to standard Notion pages. Fathom, like every script-based analytics tool, requires access to <head>— something Notion doesn't expose.

Why Fathom can't track Notion pages

Fathom works by adding <script src="cdn.usefathom.com/script.js" /> to your site. Notion pages at notion.so are rendered by Notion's servers — you don't control the HTML. Notion strips custom scripts. The only way to use Fathom on Notion content is to re-publish through a custom-domain host (Super.so, Potion, etc.) that gives you HTML access.

Feature-by-feature

FeaturePageInsightFathom

Works on standard Notion pages

Fathom needs a <script> tag in <head>. Notion doesn't allow this. PageInsight uses an iframe embed block that Notion natively supports.

Works on notion.so share links

No cookies

Both are cookieless. Fathom uses a rotating salt-based fingerprint that resets daily; PageInsight uses a localStorage ID on the embed origin.

No consent banner needed

Both are designed to operate without a cookie consent popup. Fathom is GDPR, CCPA, PECR, and ePrivacy compliant by design.

Real-time dashboard

Heartbeat-based time on page

PageInsight sends a heartbeat ping every 15 s to calculate actual reading time. Fathom tracks average duration per page via page-leave events, which works on websites but can't be installed on Notion.

Coarse geo (country / city)

Per-page breakdown

EU-hosted data option

Fathom offers EU-isolated data storage. PageInsight uses Supabase Tokyo.

Notion-specific workflow

Free tier

Fathom has no permanent free plan. PageInsight is free forever for up to 5 Notion pages.

When Fathom is the better choice

For any website or app you host yourself, Fathom is excellent. Its privacy stance is rock-solid, the EU-isolated data option is a genuine differentiator for European businesses, and the email digest feature is genuinely useful for stakeholder reporting. If you run a Super.so or Potion-powered Notion site, Fathom works there too. PageInsight is the right pick only when you want analytics on pages hosted directly at notion.so.
